Home Sweet Home

If you are a ‘decoraholic’ this is your week!

With big events happening from the two edges of the globe. There is nothing better than putting together people that are bringing a new meaning to the ‘art of decoration’ – be the subject casual interior design, break through industrial design or decorative utensils being used in sculptures/performance.

I personally always had a thing for cabinets, chandeliers, sofas, wooden floors(!) and so on. From what I can recall this passion started in my Barbie years decorating the chalet, to shuffling my bedroom around just to make it look like I had a brand new one, to flicking through my mum’s decoration magazines and daydreaming about wallpapers, rugs and chests, to watching Extreme Makeover: Home Edition like a maniac with a box of tissue by my side.

I’m not sure where all this enchantment came from what I know is that I always linked homes with imagination. For me it wasn’t only a living room – it was a composition of objects and colour that showed who that person was, what life path they were on or who they were trying to be. Oh and what a pleasure it was when I heard about The Selby, Apartment Therapy and others that gives you a constant treat of ‘raw’ decoration, sharing with many the art of matching or mismatching from the heart, no photoshop.

To keep the mugs and the venetians rolling artist Nino Cais also enhance the parallel universe of cups, vases and brooms. In his work, through drawings, sculptures, performance and videos Cais explores the human relation with domestic objects, the attachments and the memories that are proportioned from it. Really interesting work.
