Fashion has been ingrained in designer Amanda Clegg since childhood, “fashion is just part of life and for me it started when I was a midget. The influencers are the females in my family who are organically creative and have great style and strong ethos towards quality. Mum would say its nurture but I feel it’s natural, flowing and easy. The concept of being a little different and cheeky comes to mind when young from my Hollywood stylist sister.”

After studying and working in graphic design, magazines, a stint styling for tvc, film, music videos and events, marketing and project management, Amanda kept getting messages from people that told her she had all the right characteristics to pull it off in the fashion world. “When I was in London it was a wake up call I knew I wanted to design something, but didn’t know exactly what and right now that’s accessories but I can visualise diversifying into other products and interior design”.

Appearing as statement pieces from the rose silver necklace Zip-It pendants and coordinating double zipper pulley bracelets, the dark silver tassle zip (which will be soon available as oversized collector’s pieces in gold and dark silver) and silver hooped pulley necklaces. Bright citrus orange, hot fuchsia and multi-coloured carnival zips provide the perfect colour burst to every outfit.

Cynic’s additional lines Superheros and the Cynics pop art inspired scarves provide an alternative reflection to our constant obsession with the idolism of celebrities and superhuman saviors. The pieces embrace everything from fortified three tone armbands to rose gold wrist cuffs to Madonna and Child and the Fab 4 scarves, which abstractly depict celebrities from Madonna and her adopted child in a religious pose, to Paris, Britney, Nicole and Lindsay mug shots. Cynics certainly has the knack to portray sheer gossip with a tongue in cheek approach.

Cynics is fashion’s answer to societies’ idiosyncrasy’s and obsessions with a cheeky smile and individual style. This style can be summed up for Amanda in the famous words of Coco Chanel ‘fashion is made to be unfashionable,’ “I have never liked to follow fashion when everyone else does, so I drop it when it hits so I am ahead.” “For those who have built their own style be brave enough to jump out of your own comfort box to try the new and interesting.”
