Bondi Style- The Notorious Style Destination Finally Defined!!!

Olsem Esen Musician and Fashion Designer one of the locals captured in 'Bondi Style'
It is hard to define a style hub like Bondi, that is completely nonchalant yet totally image conscious all at the same time. Lisa K Smith, has managed to pinpoint this landmark suburb, and the characters that inhabit it, in her book ‘Bondi Style’.
Together with photographer Christopher Morris, Smith has compiled the book, which is a miriad of interviews with local fashion designers, style influencers, restauranters and boutique owners, together with documented street style shots and lifestyle shots of Bondi. The result is the type of coffee table book that you pick up again and again, each time with a different experience. Perhaps you take inspiration from an outfit, or lose your thoughts in one of the interviewees opinions on their beloved territory. Like Eva Galambos, a third generation Bondi resident who owns the fabulous Parlour X boutique.
“Bondi is to Sydney what the Marais is to Paris and Soho is to New York” Says Galambos.
It is this Bondi, that is akin to the Marais and Soho, that Smith has set out to expose. Many Sydney siders know and some tourists have discovered,scratch the surface of Bondi and you discover the charm and the character that make other watersidesuburbs pale in comparison. In making the book Smith says;
“I drew my inspiration from my time spent hanging out and living in Bondi. The great street fashion I’d see; the incredibly creative and interesting people who live there and the sense of community that thrives there. It is truly unlike any other suburb I have lived in and I thought it had a good story to be told”
Emma Scott- Child, graphic designer of various high profile magazines such as Yen and SummerWinter, is the final ingredient which makes this book a must. Her headings written in the bold style of the local cafe’s specials boards add the final touches that evoke the feeling of the effortless style found in Bondi.
With the autocratic style mavens at Colette in Paris already putting in their order, I’d hurry up to get your hands on a copy!

What about Sydney’s other fashion-forward suburbs? Surely Paddington, Surry Hills etc deserve books too…
I know! I love Bondi but I am so NOT Bondi. Absolutely Surry Hills chic.
