A Week in His Shoes with Jack Mac

Leader Image

After first encountering Jack out on the town, and a few chance encounters on the disco dancefloor it was mere coincidence that we happened to be holidaying in Noosa together at the same time and since this (rather trashy) time, we’ve kept an easy friendship. Jack is a third-year Production Design Student at the VCA with an exciting and colourful career ahead of him. To me, Jack will forever be a person who pushes the boundaries between costume and fashion; never as influenced by trends than he is with ideas.

His individuality shines through in his wardrobe (which takes up nearly a third of his bedroom), keynoted with pieces he has treasured from all over the world like memories, ‘postcards’ of holidays spent travelling and collecting. This is a week in his shoes, photographed by yours truly.

Taking breakfast seriously with triple denim. One must always note that denim combinations must never be too similar in colour or texture. Jack pulls this one off with denim waistcoat from a recent sale at the VCA costume store, denim shirt from the infamous Savers in Melbourne, Cheap Monday acid-wash trackpants topped with Maison Martin Margiela shades.

In or out of the studio, Jack will always think up a risqué combination. Having spotted his Elna sewing machine I insisted he feature it in this look. The boiler suit is another Savers discovery, customized singlet from Taiwan and Wayne Cooper boots. Jewellery includes an Elke Kramer for Jessie Hill bracelet, vintage watch from a Noosa antique store and Mum’s vintage cuff bracelets. Let’s not forget the pearl earrings from Sportsgirl and his Persol frames.

Shocking suburbia with a vintage beaded sweater from New York with the same customized singlet underneath, Material Boy leggings and those Wayne Cooper boots. The man purse was a Camberwell Markets find, and this look wouldn’t be complete without those pearl earrings. Jack would also like to note that today, he’s wearing Comme des Garçons eau du cologne Series 4.

Zipping down to the shop for ice-cream Jack dons another Jacket from Savers, vintage Jenny Kee kimono, Alexis Belcher leggings and Kurt Geiger Boots, customised with some belts he found at that VCA sale we should have all gone to. All complete with Margiela shades, a Fendi ring from Harrods in London and his Mum’s vintage cuff bracelets.

52

Waiting patiently for the tram in a vintage poncho tee from Behavior in New York, Rugger shorts from Target and leggings from Shag in Melbourne. Those are the same boots + belt combination, Elke bracelet and vintage cuffs, topped off with a Material Boy rucksack, DIY Super Sculpey necklace and those fantastic spectacles.

At the iconic Flinders Street Clocks, Jack takes his time in Gant blue linen dress shirt from Barneys in NYC, customised Lee Cooper denim shorts, Lanvin hightops, a Savers scarf held with twilly studs from Hermès. A Swatch watch and more purchases from markets include ring (Eumundi, Sunshine Coast), sunglasses (Camberwell) and an epic tote bag from Portobello Road Markets in London.

And finally we end this week in the heart of Melbourne’s hustle and bustle, Centre Place with Ksubi cape shirt, Limedrop pants, belt from Jack London and Lanvin hightops. More DIY super sculpey jewellery and a couple of vintage finds from Mum’s collection and we’re ready for a coffee just across the alley there at Jungle Juice.

…don’t take it personally, amazing places, lovely pictures but i could never dress up like you…and that’s good 4 you, at least you are original in your way…over here (Italy) people would think differently so if you will ever make your way over here that’s my advice…good luck
