Swatch Colour Codes- Art in a Watch
Back in 1983 Nicolas G. Hayek founded Swatch. A new concept of Swiss analogue watches ready to face the rising Japanese competition with it’s digital Casio and Seiko watches. Their goal? Re-popularise the old school way of seeing the time with a twist – sell a Swiss watch that was affordable to all and that was made out of plastic (two wow factors back then!). Plus bringing to the crowd a vanguard design with it’s bright colours and quirky spirit representing the 80′s generation and the upcoming ones with gusto! Today they are the largest watch company in the world and still considered an art, design and fashion icon.

Swatch has been collaborating with creative artists and walking side by side with art since day one, investing heavily in collaborations that help to reinvent the brand and keep it fresh.
Their brightlicious recently released collection ‘Colour Code’ was no exception. Graphic artists such as Gary Card, David Benedekand Carrie Munden were given artistic license to add their magic to one of the 6 Swatch Art Specials. ‘Colour Code’ is based on their very first collection that took the world by storm back in the early 80′s. Tagging along with the Art Specials there are the ‘originals’ – 20 ‘most amazing’ solid colours matt and shinny watches. In resume, different flavours to suit everyones taste!
To celebrate the launch of the 80′s inspired Colour Codes Collection, Swatch have challenged fore magazines like V, Nylon,P.O.P, ID, Another, Dazed and Confused and Wallpaper to spread the word in their editorial pages, shooting and interpreting the idea behind the collection and leaving it up to the public to decide which one is best. If you vote for the winner you have the chance to get your hands on one of these colourful babies, vote here and good luck!
