Friend in Fashion

Jasmin Howell, Editor of fashion blog Friend in Fashion, is the kind of girl you sort of wished was your big sister, so you could borrow her clothes.  Always immaculately turned out, Jasmin’s on trend style makes me want to run to the nearest vintage store (and occasionally, put ribbons in my hair).11

Travelling the world for the next 12 months, Tangent Digital caught up with Jasmin while she was in the USA.

Tangent Digital: Tell us about the girl behind Friend in Fashion.

Jasmin Howell: I am a pretty uncomplicated, 20 something fashion lover.  I love, all things vintage, 40’s and 50’s fashion, travel, sunshine, sun dresses, high heels and bright colours.

TD: What inspired you to start a blog?
JH: About a year ago, I decided to start my blog, Friend in Fashion: http://www.friendinfashion.blogspot.com as a way of recording and sharing my love of fashion – from modern to vintage, DIY, design, photography and lifestyle all from an Australian perspective.

TD: Celebrity, designer or model – do you have a person in particular whose style do you admire?
JH: I tend to look to classic screen starlets as my style icons: Audrey Hepburn and Sophia Lauren. But I really like Rachel Bilson’s style and the classic designs of Oscar de la Renta.

TD: Describe your personal style.
JH: My personal style is largely inspired by the classics, with a modern twist.  I have a passion for vintage, and love feminine and pretty dressing, so the 40’s and 50’s is a great source of inspiration for me.  My most prized fashion possession is my collection of vintage dresses, which keeps growing and growing, I can’t get enough!

I3TD: As a passionate vintage collector, do you covet items from any particular designers?
JH: Through my blog I have been lucky enough to work with some fabulous emerging designers who’s pieces I love to mix and match with my vintage fashion collection.  I’m currently coveting, anything from Arizona based designer – Ouma by Monique Martinez who creates the most beautiful and whimsical tutu creations.

TD: Who are your preferred contemporary designers?
JH: We are spoilt for choice when it comes to fabulous Australian designers - Rachel Gilbert, Willow and Thurley, but I am absolutely head over heals for Camilla and Marc.  Modern, elegant and feminine designs.  At the moment, I am lusting big time over the cream C&M Cherry Frock.

TD: Which city do you believe epitomises style?
JH: I couldn’t pick any one city.  I think that every city brings their own perspective and approach to fashion.  At the moment I’m travelling the United States, so San Francisco and New York have been stand-outs.
