Loving Fashion’s Latest Love Child

If you look up the words love child on the Internet the definitions are many and varied depending on the time and way it was used. Wikipedia informs me it is officially a euphemism for a child born out of wedlock, it then goes on to discuss multiple songs, albums and novels based on this euphemism. So it seems the love child has been one of much scrutiny, inspiration and memorable identity over the years and now a new love child is on the scene with a quirky spelling in her name, Love Chile, based on a Jimi Hendrix song, and she has the quirky accessories to match.

Love Chile is the brainchild of Faye De Lanty, the love child of two very fashionable parents. Faye grew up on diet of 70’s music,  glam rock men’s jackets and the totally insanely unforgettable designs of Biba. She calls it, “a fashion addiction of Osmosis,” so it was no surprise that her career in the media simply did not satisfy when it came to characteristic style and unforgettable creations.

Faye started Love Chile during a difficult time in her life, her 70’s inspired designs became a release and escape and eventually a whole form of individual expression. “I used what I was going through to create something beautiful, something from my heart…every little detail is me & the things I love. The white feather in the logo is about surrender, letting go of what holds you back, being free. Every collection is inspired by what I love or what is inspiring or making a difference in my life.”

The feathers and the chains in her latest collection offer a juxtaposition of freedom and imprisonment in a manner that is both compelling and stylish. Love Chile is not for a the faint hearted, each piece stands out, “that’s a big part of the show off in me. It’s about the originality, the boldness and the creativity, it’s eye catching fashion.”

Faye was one of the first designers to identify and intensify the shift in trend from the eighties power shoulder to the embellished shoulder and indeed her shoulders are well and truly adorned.   Of her take on the trend, detachable feather and chain shoulder pads, she says, “I think it’s a smarter option – adding something gorgeous to a piece you already have rather than being stuck with a shoulder feature that you can’t really change or remove. Its fashion that’s a little more free.”

Freedom is the essence not only of her fashion forward take on this trend but of her entire label, which she describes as original, fun and you got it…free.

Freedom is much a coveted quality of life these days so it makes sense that we want to wear it and what better way to do it than in style. Love Chile’s embellished clip on shoulder pads, body chains, double brooches and customized vintage pieces become a symbol of freedom, a freedom often associated with generations of the past, which is something Faye captures and re-expresses in a modern way. This latest collection confounds her constant seventies inspirations with the deep spiritual associations of the Ancient Hindu goddesses and India.

Faye has an eye for spotting the defining elements of the past and transposing and combining them into refreshing combination’s with the same symbolic and aesthetic value and a modern, “cool rock edge”. “I always look for stories and ideas that fit with what Love Chile stands for – details, poignancy. I have always been a story-teller and I just love the story you can tell with style.” And indeed her accessories are a story of style.

She has given a trend an identity through her own inimitable strength and character and of course her up bringing, lets face it no one can turn a blind eye to Biba, especially one that is as in tune with style as Faye’s.

So what makes this trend defining designer tick?

“Music – especially anything 60’s/70’s. The American Indian culture, New York City, feathers, love, Hindu goddesses and British Vogue! I also love to write.”

For Faye, “fashion is a wonderful form of escapism and self-expression, it’s our message to the world without words,” and her latest designs are the wind beneath the wings of modern style with an integral individuality and freedom.
