Burberry Prorsum SS12 Menswear Traded Motorbikes for Handcrafts

Christopher Bailey surprised the fashion world with a collection which was created in a reaction to the digitisation of modern culture. There was irony in the handcrafted designs in comparison to Burberry’s digital communication take-over of the fashion world; The SS12 show was live-streamed on over 200 fashion and lifestyle sites internationally, and, immediately after the show was over, a limited edition of the runway designs were available on Burberry.com.  An earthy palette was explored in eccentric outerwear that was detailed with crochet insets, ikat embroidery and woven raffia.  Woven bobble caps accessorised every outfit along with cork soled moccasins, some even with ikat woven upper detail.  Bailey says of the collection,

“This collection started with our iconic heritage as the foundation, we really wanted to emphasise this feeling of handcrafted pieces, celebrating craftsmanship but always with this playful element. We have taken our icons and played with texture to personalise and give them a real character and charm using colour to highlight the intricate detail that goes into crafting them.”

There was definitely a new personality in Burberry Prorsum meswear this season moving away from the chic streamlined dialogue of previous seasons towards designs that were a little more personable.

You have until June 27th to purchase straight from the runway on the Burberry website.
