Burberry Prorsum SS12 – London Fashion Week

The Burberry Prorsum SS12 show was a multifaceted fashion experience.  Burberry was broadcast to the world thanks to partnerships with major social media  companies. A ‘TweetWalk’ project with Twitter ensured Burberry’s Twitter followers  saw the outfits even before they were on the runway, with Tweet pics being uploaded  of each look backstage . Facebook live streamed the show to over 8 million followers. The most followed photographer on Instagram, Mike Kus, was there snapping away for Burberry’s Instagram account. Interviews from the red carpet were broadcast immediately onto the house’s You Tube account.

With so much digital hype, one may think the clothes could become become lost.  This was not the case.   The clothes were bespoke. Craftsmanship is the one word that comes to mind. “Beads, weaves, parkas and prints” is what Burberry Chief Creative Officer, Chrisopher Bailey said. These weaves, beads, parkas and prints were the foundations of a breath taking collection which respected an earthy organic colour palette . Woven techniques were used on fabrics for everything from skin tight pencil skirts to woven leather trench coat sleeves.  Beads formed aztec inspired hard-ware that were featured on yokes, collars and accessories. There were trenches realised in many fabrics; artisan basket weave, teal leather to vibrant printed cotton canvas.  Parkas featured throughout, however the stand out was an artisan   basket weave scultped parka in a terracotta orange paired back with a yellow pencil skirt in the same fabrication.

The accessories will become coveted, with basket weave wedges and strappy heels coming in a foray of earthy tones.  Bags were woven and clutches were extravagantly detailed.  There was even the addition of the new Burberry Whipstitch bag.

The only thing left to do is race to burberry.com and pre-order your collection straight off the runway.
